The sacrifice of God is a broken spirit ( Bible verses suitable for Lent and Easter )

Bible verses suitable for Lent and Easter
Ash Wednesday:

The sacrifice of God is a broken spirit;
a broken and contrite heart, O God, you will not despise.
Psalm 51.18
He was in the wilderness for forty days, tempted by Satan;
and he was with the wild beasts; and the angels waited on him.
Mark 1.13
Fasting/any time in Lent:

Is this not the fast that I choose:
to loose the bonds of injustice,
to undo the thongs of the yoke,
to let the oppressed go free,
and to break every yoke?
Is it not to share your bread with the hungry,
and bring the homeless poor into your house;
when you see the naked, to cover them,
and not to hide yourself from your own kin?
Isaiah 58.6-7

Palm Sunday:

Mark 11.1-11, John 12.12-16 or Matthew 21.1-9
Maundy Thursday:

The Last supper: Luke 22.14-23
Jesus washes his disciples’ feet: John 13.1-11
Jesus in the garden of Gethsemane: Matthew 26.36-46

Good Friday

Crucifixion accounts: Matthew 27.32-54; Mark 15.25-39; Luke 23.32-49; John 19. 16-
30 Surely he has borne our infirmities
and carried our diseases;
yet we accounted him stricken,
struck down by God and afflicted.
But he was wounded for our transgressions,
crushed for our iniquities;
upon him was the punishment that
made us whole,
and by his bruises we are healed.
Isaiah 53.4-6
For while we were still weak, at the right time Christ died for the ungodly. Indeed,
rarely will anyone die for a righteous person – though perhaps for a good person
someone might actually dare to die. But God proves his love for us in that while we
were still sinners Christ died for us.
Romans 5.6-8

Easter Day

‘Do not be alarmed; you are looking for Jesus of Nazareth, who was crucified. He has
been raised; he is not here.’
Mark 16.6
Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! By his great mercy he has
given us a new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from
the dead.
1 Peter 1.3
